While the new wave of Afghan migration has created numerous challenges for Iran, Dr. Javad Ghafari, CEO of the Association for the Support of Recovered Persons, told a Radio Salamat reporter about Iran’s commitment to providing equal services and preserving the dignity of refugees.
He emphasized that despite the limitations, Iran provides health, educational, and welfare opportunities for refugees and strives to support the most vulnerable groups.
According to a report by Radio Salamat Public Relations, Dr. Javad Ghafari, a board member of the International Network for the Coordination of Humanitarian Action, said in a conversation with a Radio Salamat reporter, referring to Iran’s commitment to humanitarian principles: “In providing assistance to citizens living in Iran, we never ask them what documents they have or do not have, because our only criterion is their real need.”
He emphasized: Iran has provided equal opportunities in various fields of health, education, welfare and medical services for all refugees, even those who have just arrived.
Referring to the temporary census of refugees, Dr. Ghafari said: The government has taken special measures and planning for the temporary census of these people in order to provide the necessary services to the refugees in an organized and legal manner. This census allows refugees to visit health centers, enroll in schools and benefit from other services.
Referring to the existing challenges, the board member of the International Humanitarian Coordination Network said: Despite all the challenges, the Iranian government has always been committed to providing education to all Afghan children.
He added: All educational levels are legally and officially accessible to Afghan citizens and they can take exams, receive official certificates and continue their education.
Dr. Ghafari also referred to the activities of the caravans in providing services to the migrants and said: The caravans that were previously active during Arbaeen and other occasions are now deployed in places to provide additional and needed services to the migrants in the best possible way.
Finally, referring to the challenges in accurately recording the departure of migrants from the borders, he emphasized: Given the harsh weather conditions and limited facilities, efforts to preserve the human dignity of these people continue.
